The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

What a wonderfully crafted and spiced book. This is another of my favourites. When I read this book, I can feel the tasteness and sweetness of Divakaruni’s words when writing this novel. Overall, it is about an immigrant lady named Tilo who runs a spice shop in Oakland, California. She is known to have some powers towards the spices and when she supplies the ingredients for curries and kormas, at the same time she also help her customers to gain a more precious commodity that is whatever they must desire. In a way she can read what their mind wants and at the spot she will bring the wanted spice and gives it the customers. In other words she is able to cure people’s feelings and needs. But when an American guy ventures into the store, she cannot find the correct spice for him. As a result, things begins to change. There is also a movie adapted from this book. It is directed by Paul Mayeda Berges with a script by Berges and his wife, Gurinder Chadha. Guess what the casts are the lavishing Aishwarya Rai and the cool Dylan McDermott. Also special cast by Padma Lakshmi who appears to be in Astro Travel & Living channel played a part in the movie. It is a wonderful movie to be watched.
